HAND FELTED WOOL

The raw material is sheep wool fiber, special felting needles and some foam as support. The wool is dyed in all different colours. The needles are typically triangular in cross section, having three edges with a series of barbs cut into one or more of these edges. These barbs catch and move the fibres as the needle is repeatedly jabbed into a fibre mass. To make a flower, you have to start with a small amount of wool fiber that you place on the piece of foam and then repeatedly punch through the fiber with a needle. The needles exist in different sizes for more efficiency or more precision. You can then add some more wool to create volume or to change colour. To assembly the petals together you have to felt them on the top of each other, no stitch or glue … except if you want to add some beads!
